Former soap star Mat Stevenson had roles on TV which most actors would die for.
However he shocked fans when he left long-running soap Home and Away after five years and 500 episodes with the hit program.
Now Mat, who played heart-throb Adam Cameron on the soap between 1989 and 1994, has revealed just why he ditched his plum job.
The 50-year-old told The Daily Telegraph on Saturday that he in fact left acting for love.
After I left Home and Away, I travelled for three years and when I came back I was 27. I met a woman that I loved and we wanted a family,’ said Mat.
‘And with that comes responsibility so I sought out some secure work and that’s the government role I have been working in ever since.’
Mat has been investigating identity theft for the government since 2001.
Mat and his wife share two two daughters, aged 18 and 15.
