Late-night host Busy Philipps reunited with her brand new executive producer Tina Fey to chat all things Busy Tonight at the Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour in Pasadena on Tuesday.
The Pennsylvania-born 48-year-old officially signed on to shepherd the Illinois-born 39-year-old’s four-nights-a-week E! Network talk show back on October 25.
‘I really liked Busy. She’s charismatic and knows her way around a joke,’ the former SNL head writer said onstage – according to Deadline.
‘[A lot of being an EP] is setting people up to succeed and then getting out of their way. Busy knows herself and what she wants to say and do.’
The hard-working mothers-of-two – both born Elizabeth – were joined at the Langham Huntington by their showrunner/writer Caissie St.Onge, who remarked about how much more inclusive TV is for women in leadership roles.
‘It’s 100 percent true. Films are a mess,’ Tina confirmed. ‘Television is better than movies in all the ways.’
Busy went on to describe her show as comfort food, a ‘little treat for viewers at the end of the night.’
‘I was sick of watching Friends reruns before I went to bed,’ the Freaks and Geeks alum explained.
‘I’ve seen them all so many times I wanted to see a show I could watch before I went to sleep.’
The ladies’ collaboration kicked off in 2017 when Fey produced an ill-fated pilot called The Sackett Sisters, in which Philipps and Casey Wilson starred as estranged siblings, but NBC passed on the project.
Backstage, the This Will Only Hurt a Little author accidentally got a little too intimate with the two-time Golden Globe winner over Insta-story.
