Everton boss Marco Silva has not been surprised by Burnley securing their Premier League place despite the Toffees’ thumping win at Turf Moor earlier this season.
Sean Dyche’s side were left three points adrift of safety when they slumped to 5-1 defeat by Everton on Boxing Day but they experienced an upturn in results in the new year.
The visitors to Goodison Park on Friday are already assured to retain their top-flight status ahead of their penultimate game of the season, a situation that Silva anticipated.
He said: ‘It was not a surprise to me, to be honest with you, what they did. Of course we achieved an important win, a very good result in that day, but a football match is always different.
‘They remain in the Premier League but it’s not a surprise to me. It’s always a tough team to play against and it will be tough again tomorrow. They deserve to remain in the Premier League.’
