Zlatan Ibrahimovic marked the anniversary of his MLS debut but scoring two penalties to lead LA Galaxy to a 2-1 win against the Portland Timbers on Sunday.
Making his first appearance since March 2 due to an achilles injury, Ibrahimovic hit the post in the first half before slotting home from 12 yards to give Galaxy the lead in the 33rd minute.
Portland carved Galaxy apart with a slick passing move to level through Jeremy Ebobisse shortly before the break.
But Ibrahimovic settled the game in the 65th after he was brought crashing down in the area but Portland’s goalkeeper.
He converted the kick with a panenka.
‘I feel good. I keep trying to help my team in the best way and the best way is to score goals,’ Ibrahimovic said.
‘I try to enjoy it. Today it went well, it was not an easy game but we did a bit better and that is why we won.’
The match was a year on from Ibrahimovic’s sensational debut for LA Galaxy, where he came on in the 71st minute and led Galaxy to a 4-3 win over LA FC from 3-1 down with two goals of his own.
LA Galaxy are fifth in the Western Conference, four points behind leaders LA FC.
