They’re both Channel Nine shows, but the contracts drawn up for the stars on Love Island are completely different to those signed by Married At First Sight contestants.
This has been clearly demonstrated by the fact I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!, which airs on Channel 10, includes a Love Island star but nobody from MAFS.
Justin Lacko is one of the 12 celebrities who have been sent into the African jungle for this year’s series.
The 28-year-old model appeared on last year’s season of Love Island, which aired on 9Go, and seemingly had no problem swapping networks to Channel 10.
Noticeably absent from this year’s I’m A Celebrity lineup, however, is anyone from Married At First Sight.
It would seem that despite the fact both programs are Nine-owned, their contestants are bound by very different participation agreements.
According to a report by Daily Mail Australia in September, each Married At First Sight cast member is required to sign a contract preventing them from trying to launch media careers off the back of the show with any rival networks.
‘They’ll be unable to do anything for a minimum of 12 months,’ a source said.
‘To keep some integrity around the show, this prevention is enforced to try and encourage the contestants to return to their day jobs once the show is done.
‘Nine do not want any of the participants to become celebrities, and they especially don’t want them appearing on any rival networks or reality shows.’
