Last August, Tom Ballard’s ABC comedy series Tonightly was axed from the network after just two seasons.
And on Thursday’s The Project, the comedian promoted his new play ‘#Kwanda’ that parodies ABC’s popular political program QandA.
However, when Project host Peter Helliar suggested Hamish Macdonald could be next in line to host the ABC program, Tom leaped across the desk.
The radio presenter has been a guest host for Tony Jones in the past, with Hamish also taking on the hosting gig from time to time.
‘I’ve been lucky enough to fill in for Tony Jones a couple of times on QandA. I watch that show every week and I yell and throw things at the television,’ Tom said.
Speaking of his decision to create the parody play, he said: ‘I thought that could be a funny way to explore the way we discuss politics in Australia, particularly on that show where everybody is an idiot and nothing changes.’
Peter then interjected: ‘You’ve hosted QandA, Hamish has hosted QandA, Tony Jones is leaving… who’s going to?’
Unable to finish his question, Peter was forced to hold back Tom as he leaped over the table to grab Hamish in a playful manner.
