Bad Suns Announce ‘Mystic Truth’ Album, Unveil Punchy Single ‘Hold Your Fire’: Listen

Alt-rock quartet Bad Suns are gearing up for a busy 2019, as their third LP, Mystic Truth, is due out on March 22. The album marks the group’s first effort for Epitaph Records, but even with a new label home, Bad Suns haven’t lost their anthemic dream-pop sound — and their latest single is proof of that.

“Hold Your Fire,” which the band dropped on Monday (Jan. 14), begins with a wavy synth that puts frontman Christo Bowman’s vocals front and center, with pounding drums and gritty guitar joining on the song’s chorus. Though the track is relatively upbeat, Bowman calls it “a meditation on acceptance in the form of confronting the end of a relationship.” But happy or sad, “Hold Your Fire” was a song he immediately knew would be a Mystic Truth standout.

“This song came to life beneath the stars, on a wind farm in Palm Springs on a breezy summer night,” Bowman says in a statement. “The synth sequence and rolling bass lines were being looped in the room — I felt this tap on the shoulder and just started singing the words ‘hold your fire,’ and immediately knew we had something special to work with.”

Bowman completed the song over a span of two weeks, finding inspiration on flights to and from Paris, or while walking around the city with his journal. As the last song to materialize for the album, “Hold Your Fire” marked the end of Bad Suns’ recording process, but the official beginning of the Mystic Truth chapter.

Bad Suns kick off their world tour in support of Mystic Truth tonight in Bristol, UK. Check out the rest of the group’s tour dates here, and take a listen to “Hold Your Fire” below.
