More misery for Chelsea, even more for manager Maurizio Sarri as Paul Pogba inspired Manchester United’s brilliant 2-0 win at Stamford Bridge in the FA Cup Round of 16 tie on Monday. While Ander Herera put the visitors ahead after 31 minutes, Pogba produced a great diving header to double the lead on stroke of half time. The Blues, coming into the encounter on the back of a 6-0 hammering at the hands of Manchester City, failed to cut the deficit in the second half to go 8 goals without a reply in domestic competitions.
United themselves were coming into the contest after a 2-0 home loss to Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 first leg. Successfully bouncing back from the PSG setback, United produced an impressive performance on the field to push Chelsea boss Sarri closer to a sack.
Speaking to BBC after the end of the match, Pogba asserted this is the sort of performance that Manchester United are capable of. While challenging for the Premier League title remains unrealistic this season, the Red Devils seem to be in keen on at least one domestic title.
“It was a beautiful win today. A great performance from the team. It wasn’t easy but we did it and we are really pleased with that win. Like I always say the team help me to get to my best. I give my everything for them.
“We are just enjoying playing together. Obviously, we are Manchester United and we play to win trophies and he (Solskjaer) took this job because he can do it. He trusts us and we trust him and we will go for it. We don’t know if we are going to win but we always go for it,” said the 2018 World Cup winner.
