Netflix has renewed Grace and Frankie for a sixth season.

The news comes just days before the comedy series – starring Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin – premieres its fifth season.

‘We certainly feel the love’ from the streaming service,’ series creator Marta Kauffman said of the prompt decision to move forward with the show. ‘It is greatly appreciated and I don’t take it for granted.’

Kauffman has been very public about wanting to keep the show running as long as Netflix will let her.

Just last year she told Indiewire that she’s up for doing it ‘as long as it’s comfortable for Jane and Lily.

She added, ‘It could be years and years. Who knows?’

The series follows septuagenarians Grace, a retired cosmetics mogul, and Frankie, a hippie art teacher, whose husbands, Robert and Sol, are successful divorce lawyers in San Diego.

But suddenly, Grace and Frankie’s lives are turned upside down when their husbands announce that they are in love with each other and are leaving their wives.

The trauma of that shocking revelation leads the ladies, who have never particularly liked each other, to forge a new bond in order to cope with their newfound difficulties and rebuild their lives together.

When last seen in the season four finale, Grace and Frankie were fleeing a retirement community in a golf cart to resume life in their oceanfront home – only to find a sold sign in front of it.

‘Everybody said, oh, that was a real cliffhanger when you lost the house last season,’ Tomlin said. ‘Well, wait until you see this season.’

Without giving away too much, Kauffman also weighed in on how Grace and Frankie will fare in the upcoming 13 episodes.
