Dancing on Ice judge Jason Gardiner has branded contestant Gemma Collins ‘lazy’ as he despairs over the country now celebrating ‘mediocre’ stars instead of those who are ‘exceptional at something’.

The 47-year-old unleashed a damning critique of the former TOWIE star – suggesting she has a poor attitude and could damage the ITV show’s reputation.

Speaking to The Sun, the acid-tongued judge urged Gemma, 37, who is partnered with professional skater Matt Evers for the series, to resist making the competition a ‘pantomime’.

He said: ‘I can always see who’s lazy. Gemma is lazy. She doesn’t look like her heart is in it at all. I do despair — at the state of our society today and also the entertainment industry.

‘When I grew up people were bloody good at what they did. They were exceptional at something, so you were inspired by people on TV. Now we celebrate mediocre in this country.’

The Australian said after hearing how confident Gemma was – as she insisted she is ‘better than Beyonce’ – he was hoping to be blown away by her first performance but that wasn’t the case.

In fact, Jason recalls he found the routine the ‘most painful’ one he’s ever had to sit through as it constantly looked like the reality TV star was going to fall over at any moment.

The judge, who joined the programme in 2006 when it was first aired, added: ‘I don’t want [Dancing On Ice] to become is a pantomime. I don’t want people to destroy the great legacy the show has already achieved.’
